ramona falls - intuit

This isn't new music, it was released last year.  I became obsessed with I Say Fever as soon as I heard it but sort of dismissed the other songs on the album.  Oh how wrong I was.  This album is the only thing I can listen to right now.  It's ruined all other music for me so Brent Knopf, if you're reading this (you're not...) please keep making music like this.  It's wonderful.

If you want to listen to it before you make that ipod commitment, you can on their website, here.  Every song must be listened to from beginning to end, because trust me, if you don't like the first few seconds and you skip the song you will be missing out on something great.  It almost happened to me, so don't you be a fool too.

a girl named gus.

A girl I didn't know very well died this weekend.  She was 23, and a close friend of friends, and I had to deliver the news to someone who is very very close to me who was a good friend of hers.  The news hadn't broken that they found her body on the news or in the papers yet, so in a way, I'm glad that I was able to find the confirmation so that the rest of her friends can find out in a more personal way than on the 5 o'clock news.  It's not easy telling someone who has been holding out hope for a miracle that what they knew deep down had happened had in fact happened.  I didn't know her very well, but I can't focus now, I can't stop thinking about her. I can't look out my window at the dark clouds rolling past, threatening an even darker day, and not cry that such a young, loved, motivated woman is gone.  Just like that.

It was a stupid and needless death.  She shouldn't have jumped in the lake, she should have learned her limits with alcohol by 23, right?  But she was that crazy, fun girl that everyone knew.  She was athletic, but it wasn't enough to get her to shore this weekend and I, just like a lot of other people are left to wonder why this had to happen.  Why didn't someone cut her off when she was too drunk?  Why didn't they physically restrain her when she wanted to swim to shore?  Why didn't someone strap on a life-vest and go get her after she did?  These questions are moot, it's too late.  Just remember that alcohol and lakes are a dangerous combo, peeps.

Rest in peace, Gus.
